I must have parked my car in a “Goldilocks Zone” – and I do not mean that it was mixed up with a lost girl and three bears. For various reasons, I had parked in a spot that is less than ideal for quick access, but is out most everyone’s way. And then there was a storm. A storm through which I slept, mostly.
When I got up and got past immediate wake-up issues, I headed toward the kitchen to make coffee and breakfast of some sort. Before I got very far, I was told to look out the (window of the) front door. It took a few moments to clear things, including my eyes. Then I saw that what looked like a neighbor’s tree (really, a limb…) was down. And the very tip – if even that- had just brushed my car. Further, when it fell, it pulled lines down (not all the way to the ground – amazingly, it looked like nobody lost power) and those that seemed to be down (or at least Rather Low) were in front my car.
I had said that if things were not clear(ed) enough for me to get out, I might need a ride into work (due to timing) – but I could walk back if need be. Timing is rather less critical after work. As it was, the car could be moved and was while I dealt with the coffee and breakfast and such things.
I relayed this to my mother and she said it did seem I had gotten Rather Lucky in having parked in a place that was Just So. And further recalled that one of Mr. Lemke’s peeves was trees near power lines. It’s not a matter of if, but of when something will go wrong and a tree or limb takes out a line and there is work to do – usually in miserable weather.
This happened Saturday afternoon or evening. There is a truck set in place to keep a pole braced up and thus the lines from it up. It looks like everyone can get around it one way or another save one place. And that place likely was warned to get a vehicle (or vehicles) out to places that could get out before the cones blocking things off were set. For what it’s worth, that place is the one I refer to as “My Methylated Neighbors.”
