  1. It was when I read ‘The Rational Optimist” by Matt Ridley, that I started to take a seriously different approach to thinking about ‘where we are’. If you think about it, You can go to a Chinese restuarant and have food, CHEAPLY, that even Kiing Louis XIV couldn’t dream of; all you can eat even!!!
And I recall a commercial discussing ‘the starving poor’ of our country, describing a young girl, walking down from the seccond floor of her home, to look into an empty refridgerator,,,, Things the poor of yore could never have entertained, let alone HAD,,,, Two floor homes, fridges that keep food cold,,,,
Yah, we’ve come a long way baby,,, spoiled as all get out, and like all spoiled brats, demanding more,,, BUT,, Even if things start to come apart, the fall won’t be so severe that we lose it all, unless there is a populaton decline well over 65%. There are enough people currently that could rebuild back to something approaching where we are now, SO LONG AS, that population doesn’t dip below a certain point. More than half and we lose mental resources that can’t be replaced quickly or easily as there would be no one to teach the replacements.
