In May of 2022, I posted about a little sensor light setup for a door and how it made guiding a key into the lock that much easier in the otherwise dark. That was Lock and Light. In that post, I had figured I’d need to change out the single AA cell again sometime in or around September 2024.
Nope. I’d notice it getting much dimmer in the colder weather, but figured the cold weather was (slowly) ending, so I could more time from it. Not quite. It was even rather dim in relatively warmer weather now. Thus it was time and on the morning of 11 April 2024, I swapped in a new cell.
I no longer recall what brand the original cell was. Ir might have been included with the device, which would mean either something rather generic or, if a well-known brand, most likely Panasonic. If not, then it’s possible I put something sold by Anker. I doubt it was Duracell as I do not recall any leaking. The Duracells of old were good about not leaking. In recent years, they’ve slipped badly. In 2022 I replaced the original with a store brand (Hy-Vee) cell. It lasted about 23 months, rather than the 28+ of the original. This time, I went Energizer. I’ll see how long this one lasts.
The weather does vary from year to year, which might affect things, so it might not be a truly fair comparison.
