I (we) got alerts that the $HOOTERVILLE area was at risk of flooding through LibertyCon. This past Winter it was dry. No, really, it was dry. I swept dustings of snow a few times. I shoveled that which was barely more than a dusting a few times. I did NOT need to fire up the snowblower even once. (I really need to run it, just to be sure it will start easy…)
When we got home, the first thing I did, or maybe second after something involving porcelain, was to check the basement. It was a bit musty, but NO water. HUZZAH! I have sprayed around with a disinfectant, to hopefully deal with some of the musty.
Meanwhile, others are not so lucky. There are many basements that do (or did) have standing water. Water is/was overtopping a dam. Another dam in the region is at risk – and at least one house has been “swept away” according to the paper. And the forecast is for rain, with more rain, and of course, rain.
All that snow we didn’t get? It’s here now. Any drought is over. Now, it’s The Big Sog.
Old substation, associated building, and a house swept away by “Imminent Dam Failure”. Gotta lurv the newsies (or not)
We got hammered a bit by it with wet basements (mine is fine as well) flooded lots (disliked coworker possibly killed his VW Golf driving it into the work lot across town [snicker]) and streets where they blocked the drains for construction work.
Our winter wasn’t overly unwet/unsnowy, but not the least I’ve seen since moving back.
